Ken is an expert concept and production artist, specializing in characters but with a generalist's skillset as well. His areas of expertise include 2D concept and design, 3D modeling, texturing, animation, lighting, look dev, and previs. He earned a BFA in Illustration from BYU and has over 20 years of experience in the entertainment industry spanning video games, TV, film, and advertising. His work has been published in over 20 game titles, as well as TV series, films, advertising, and in numerous magazines and books. Ken has been an active member of the Visual Effects Society since 2011.
Ken spent six years working at Electronic Arts Los Angeles as a Character Artist, Lead Character Artist, and Character Art Director. He started focusing exclusively on freelance work in late 2008. Since that time he has been designing characters for the likes of A52/Elastic, The Mill, Scholar, Psyop, Ant Farm, Zoic, Yu+Co, Microsoft, Skechers, Activision, and Electronic Arts, along with some indie game studios. He has created concept and book illustrations and done character and cinematic work for games such as Adrift, Command and Conquer, FIFA, Medal of Honor, Strider, the Saboteur, Transformers, and many, many others. He created box art for Disney Infinity products as well as for their E3 booth (including 'Big Hero' BayMax, Marvel, and Star Wars characters!). He has created creatures, characters, and digi-doubles for the TV series' Hanna, Fringe,The Good Place, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Scandal, Arrow, Steven Spielberg's TV series Falling Skies, Powerless, Future Man, Once Upon A Time, and show titles for 5 Came Back, Luke Cage, The Young Pope, as well as commercial projects for numerous clients including Meta, Activision/Blizzard, RIOT games, Samsung, Lexus, Pepsi, Mountain Dew, Coke, SmartWater, Honda, Nascar, Skechers, and the NFL. He also designed the alien creature featured in the first VOID VR experience.
In his spare time he enjoys being outdoors playing beach volleyball or surfing. He also designs and creates 3D printed jewelry and other products in collaboration with his wife. You can find their 3D prints here.
